It starts gradually.
A toothbrush. A contact lens case.
A compact hairbrush. A tiny container of moisturizer.
Then, so slowly it’s almost unnoticeable, it begins to expand.
A small bottle of face wash. A sample tube of mascara. A spare stick of deodorant.
All travel size, all dispensable, all easily left behind.
Because it’s hard to tell where things may lead in the early days, and if you’re going to be cautious about your heart, you may as well be cautious about your toiletries, too.
But then you find yourself making future plans, and staying.
And you can’t imagine yourself anywhere else, or with anyone else.
So your travel size collection expands again, but rapidly, this time.
The tiny container of moisturizer gets replaced with a full sized one.
The small bottle of face wash gets replaced with one from your favorite brand.
The contact lens case gets paired with a full sized bottle of contact solution — plus, space for your glasses is made on the bedside table.
Eventually, you take a step back and see that nothing is travel size anymore.
And you smile to yourself as you realize that hey, maybe you found a keeper after all.
