Previously: I talked about capsule wardrobes (and even did a YouTube video on it!) and promised that I’d share my winter capsule wardrobe picks.
Hand over heart, I did zero shopping for my winter capsule. Truthfully, I’d be more proud of this fact if I hadn’t purchased some clothes earlier in the year for the cooler months, but hey, I didn’t use my winter capsule planning as an excuse to buy new clothes right now. There’s a victory in that, right?
Some things I realized about my clothing wearing and wardrobe building habits as I curated my winter capsule:
- Thanks to my stint with KonMari a few weeks ago, I had already narrowed down my winter wardrobe choices to a capsule wardrobe friendly amount. Basically, I had less clothes in my wardrobe than I thought I did (a good thing in this case!) It wasn’t hard to pick out 37 pieces since I apparently don’t wear much more than that to begin with. In fact, I probably could’ve gone with a slightly lower number than 37, but I decided not to since this is my first time doing a capsule wardrobe.
- When I find something that works for me, I really make it work for me. Which is why I own the same shirt in all eight colors, heh.
- I don’t wear dresses in the winter, so they’re not in my capsule wardrobe. I’m fairly confident I won’t miss them, but I’ll report back in three months.
- I live in jeans.
- My pops of color are pretty much limited to my tops, and some outerwear pieces. My shoes and jeans are basically all neutrals.

Great capsule! You are so cute! Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I own 6 of the Jcrew Tippi sweater in 4 colors, so I totally know what you mean about owning multiples. I wear them to work at least 3-4 times a week. Enjoy your capsule!
Thanks! I’m really glad I have that shirt in all those colors… makes getting dressed in the morning super easy. Honestly, I doubt anyone even really notices I wear the same thing but in multiple colors all the time!
loving this capsule winter wardrobe
Thanks, Giulia!
Nicely done! I’m still thinking of doing this… I need to get my act together! I tried to get Marie Kondo’s book from the local library, but it has MASSIVE holds on it. I’m on the waitlist for the online version at four libraries, including the D.C. Public Library, where I of course no longer live! Ha. But I really think that will help kickstart me, whether it leads me to create a capsule wardrobe or not…
Thanks! I’ve already made a slight change to my winter capsule (oops) but how was I to know one of my boots was going to break?! Oh well, live and learn and all that. Let me know what you think of Marie Kondo’s book! I’m considering buying my own copy because I feel like it’s something that would be good for me to reread periodically.
I loved your modelling video. I do a lot of arts and crafts and supplement with $1.50 shirts from Goodwill which I also wear to sleep in. Since I am retired, many of my good clothes are 10 years old. I have 3 pairs of jeans and 2 pairs of black slacks. 3 cardigans, black, tan and red. I also have a heavy shawl in purple. My pullovers are grey, black, blue, and jade green. I have 6 pairs of shoes including flip flops. I also have pullover sweatshirts in black, navy and green. Since I live in Chicago, it is sometimes very cold, so I layer two tops together.
Thank you! And yes, layering is a godsend in the chillier months.
