Remember when I blogged about signing up to run my first 5K? Well, the race was this past Saturday and I DID IT!!!
It was a bright, sunny day, albeit with a strong, cold wind that I could’ve done without (especially during mile two, when I was running right into/against it). But I knocked the race out of the park anyway! I finished it at a faster pace than my practice 5K runs AND achieved a new PR for the 5K distance. I was aiming to get under 37 minutes and my final time was 34:16.
Win, win, win.
I celebrated with a lovely brunch, a lazy afternoon in bed watching Netflix, and a night out with some of my friends. A pretty awesome way to spend the day of a 5K, if you ask me 🙂
To think that back in August, running for 90 seconds was exhausting and now here I am in November, running 5K. It’s awesome (and mind boggling!) to think of the change my mindset and body has gone through in the last three months since I got into the running game. Not to mention I now have a drawer full of running and workout clothes that I actually get a lot of use out of, which makes me feel like I’ve checked off a box on the “I’m An Adult” checklist or something.
My biggest challenge moving forward will be to keep running in the cold months. I’m fortunate to have access to a treadmill, but running on a treadmill is never going to be as exciting or inspiring as running outdoors. Still, it’s better than nothing, and hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with running so that when spring comes, I can sign up for some more 5K races and maybe even a 10K!
