There was a long stretch of my life where I didn’t eat breakfast. I’d have a cup of hot chocolate or tea or orange juice or something at most, and then call it a day till lunch. I’d usually be RAVENOUS by noon, of course, but I always found that I wasn’t hungry in the mornings immediately after waking up.
However, it seems as though part of becoming a morning person is also developing an appetite for breakfast. I can take or leave eggs mostly, but I love pancakes, waffles, French toast, toast, oatmeal, sausage, bacon… BACON… the list goes on. Overnight oats is actually what first got me into breakfast because I could prep it the night before and eat it at my work desk when I got hungry in the morning. Lately, though, I’ve been enjoying making the time to enjoy breakfast in the morning before work.
There’s just something mentally soothing about having a few moments in the morning all to myself to enjoy a bite to eat. Sure, some mornings are rushed and I’m eating a banana as I run out the door. But other mornings, I have the time to make pancakes or enjoy overnight oats or mash an avocado to put on toast. Either way, I have the benefit of food in my belly before starting the work day, which helps me avoid to dreaded 10 a.m. hangriness that was once part of my daily routine.
I’d like to get to the point where I can have a leisurely breakfast every day regardless if it’s during the work week or the weekend, but I have a little ways to go before I get there. I’m already solidly forming a 6 a.m. wake up habit, but between running and blogging it’s hard to squeeze in time for leisurely breakfasts before getting to the office, too! However, I’m scouring the internet (and by that I mean Pinterest) for breakfast recipes I can tackle during the weekend. If you have any favorites to recommend, let me know!
