On a designated day each month, I post a linkup where bloggers can showcase what “a day in the life” that month is like with photos, text or a combination of the two. For more information about this project, click here.
I’ve been thinking a lot about this linkup lately, especially since the dates for June and July bookended my trip to Chile. This was unintentional, of course; the original date for July was during my Chilean trip which obviously was something I hadn’t planned when picking out the A Day in the Life dates for 2014. I think the same happened for May; I had to bump up the date so that it wasn’t when I was in Toronto. It looks like it’ll be happening for August, too…
As I look at my calendar for the rest of the year and the rest of the dates I have picked out for A Day in the Life, I sense more of these clashes will occur. Sometimes it’s because I have to travel unexpectedly for work, or to put in crazy long hours where the last thing I want to do in my precious free time is spend even more time looking at a computer screen. Other times it’s because I have a feeling that I’m drowning when it comes to this blog: the use of good quality pictures (stock or original), the promoting, the networking, the advertising, the sponsoring… it’s too much, and none of it is particularly fun for me. Blogging was JUST about writing when I first started more than five years ago. Now it’s become so much more than that; one could argue blogging’s never been less about writing than it is now.
All of this to say that I need to rethink how this linkup is done because the way that it’s set up now isn’t doing it for me. Perhaps I’ll have an open post on the first X day of every month where people can submit their posts to? Or co-host it with someone, or hand it over to someone else to host altogether? I don’t know. I’m open to any and all ideas. I just know that spending the past 10+ days away from most things internet while traveling reminded me of what I do and don’t want to make time for when I’m online. Writing/blogging, of course, topped the list. Alarmingly, not much else made the cut… but that’s a story for another time.
I’ve got a lot to coordinate since returning from Chile as I’ll be departing for a work trip next week so I’m busy, busy, busy the next couple of days. Unfortunately, that also means I didn’t have time to pick the best out of my vacation photos (not that there were that many, I’m a terrible photographer) and figure out the editing, the uploading, etc. I’m afraid my Instagram feed will have to do for this round! Here’s a teaser:
